Gatekeeper Training
A full-day training for adults in school and community settings designed to provide the fundamentals of suicide prevention. This training will provide up-to-date information about suicide; teach basic suicide intervention skills; increase personal confidence and ability to effectively respond to suicidal behavior; and identify helpful resources. This training is the foundation of the Maine Youth Suicide Prevention Program and a pre-requisite to MYSPP school-based curriculum training.
Who Should Attend
Any school, community, health services agency professional, law enforcement professional, primary care practice staff who needs to understand and practice suicide prevention in their daily lives.
GATEKEEPER LOCATIONS AND REGISTRATION
Suicide Prevention Awareness Education Sessions, 1-3 hours
A one to three hour presentation intended to develop suicide prevention awareness to a general audience or within staff meetings and conference workshop structure. This training will provide general and basic information on suicide with resources avalable for further training, including what is offered by the Maine Suicide Prevention Program.
Who Should Attend
Any school, community, health services agency or law enforcement professional, primary care practice staff who needs to understand the fundamentals of suicide prevention awareness.
Lifelines Teacher Training: Learn How to Teach Youth About Suicide Prevention
A full-day program for health educators and others who will implement Lifelines Student Suicide Prevention lessons in the school health curriculum. These lessons are aligned with Maine Learning Results Health Education Standards. They are a part of a research-based, field-tested program that has been evaluated in Maine. Gatekeeper training is a pre-requisite to this program.
Who Should Attend
School Health Education Teachers, School Administrators, School-based clinicians and behavioral health staff.
REGISTER FOR LIFELINES TEACHER TRAINING
Training of Trainers (TOT): Learn to Present a Suicide Prevention Awareness Session
A four-hour program available to trained "Gatekeepers" to prepare them to facilitate a 60 or 90 minute suicide prevention awareness sessions for co-workers, school staff and/or other community members. Easy-to-use packaged materials are provided. Gatekeeper training is a pre-requisite for this program.
Who Should Attend
Any person who has participated in the Gatekeeper training and would like to provide a Suicide Prevention Awareness session in their community, school or workplace.

Transitions Lessons Teacher Training
The Transitions Lessons Teacher Training is designed to help schools reinforce concepts presented in the school health curriculum and to better prepare high school seniors for life after high school. These lessons address the changes that students will experience in their lives after graduation. Attendees must have taken Gatekeeper Training and work in a school that has implemented a comprehensive Suicide Prevention Program that includes administrative protocols, agreements with community crisis providers; all staff trained in suicide awareness; suicide prevention education for students, and a school climate that promotes safety and respect for all.
Who Should Attend
School behavioral health, counseling, social workers, school-based clinicians, school staff who interface with high school seniors.

Middle School Lessons: Learn How to Teach Middle School Youth About Suicide Prevention
A full-day program for health educators and others who will implement MYSPP Middle School Suicide Prevention lessons in the school health curriculum. These lessons are aligned with Maine Learning Results Health Education Standards. Students will learn the positive and negative aspectes of life stress, coping strategies, and suicide prevention. Gatekeeper training is a pre-requisite for this program.

Middle School Health Educators, Counselors, Special Education staff

Suicide Assessment for Clinicians
The ability to conduct an effective suicide risk assessment is a vital skill for any clinician. This day-long workshop builds knowledge about suicide trends in high risk populations across the lifespan, and takes participants through the steps of suicide risk assessment, intervention, treatment options, and resources. This program is for those working in clinical roles with youth or adults who need more in-depth resources and information to assess suicide risk.
Who Should Attend
Mental Health/Substance Abuse clinicians working in private practice, outpatient and inpatient settings, crisis workers, schools and primary care.

Suicide Prevention Protocol Development Presentation
The likelihood of schools or youth-serving agencies encountering a suicidal youth is real. Few events are more painful or potentially disruptive to the community. Protocols provide guidance on steps to take in order to safely assist youth and staff by providing them with direction, structure and support. This on line power point presentation provides important information for schools and social service agencies interested in developing protocols for suicide prevention, intervention and postvention. Technical assistance is also provided by contacting the Maine Suicide Prevention Program at chorne@namimaine.org , and by viewing material available on the MSPP website at www.maine.gov/suicide .
