The Importance of a Mentor | Louie Diaz
Louie Diaz shares his journey in recovery and his experience on being a mentee and then a mentor. He will provide valuable information for a successful journey in mentoring and recovery. The audience will learn how to provide guidance and counsel and when to give recommendations. You will come away able to motivate and provide emotional support. How to provide role modeling.  A mentor may help with exploring careers, setting goals, developing contacts, and identifying resources.

What Empowers | Steve Morgan
A highly visual and story-based exploration of how we might re-imagine approaches to mental health.  Using my own lived experience, we tour how services currently operate and consider the possibilities of a more relationship-focused paradigm.  Investigating connection, we uncover how the natural world relies on collaboration to create health and consider lessons to be learned from that.  We look at the power of community and mutually supportive relationships, surveying innovative programs that implement both.  An inspiring, provocative, big picture talk, What Empowers? invites the audience to call forth passion in the work they do.

About the Keynote

Steven Morgan
Steven has worked in peer support for twelve years. He was originally trained as a Georgia Certified Peer Specialist and worked in traditional service agencies, where he became intimately familiar with the difficulties of practicing peer support within a medical model. read more
