An overview of substance use disorders during pregnancy

Dr. O’Connor will cover:

  • an overview of substance use disorders during pregnancy to include appropriate screening and terminology
  • a review of medication for addiction treatment (both buprenorphine and methadone) for opioid use disorder during pregnancy
  • a discussion on polysubstance use including alcohol, stimulant, marijuana, and nicotine use during pregnancy
  • a brief description of evidence-based treatment of pain, co-occurring mental health disorders and common infectious diseases in pregnant women with substance use disorders

Alane O’Connor, DNP Dr. O’Connor has a particular interest in caring for pregnant women with substance use disorders and has published numerous peer-reviewed articles both here and abroad on infant outcomes following buprenorphine exposure during pregnancy.  Read more
